The Alchemical Web: Bringing about Regime Change through the Internet Protocol

As I mentioned last Friday, IntelFusion has been syndicated by Forbes.com. I’ll continue writing for both blogs, of course, although not all posts will be suitable for both venues. Or, as is the case today, I won’t have the time to reproduce them at both venues. Nevertheless, I think The Alchemical Web is an important article and I’d appreciate you taking a few minutes to read and comment on it. Thanks very much.
The Friday Brief

Lots of cool things to share today:
- I’m honored that I’ve been asked by Forbes.com to write for their new blog The Firewall. My first post is up entitled “In the Land Where Profit is King, Security Suffers“. Please check it out, and pass the word.
- My blogging pal and sometimes debating partner Tim Stevens is part of a very ambitious online magazine project called Current Intelligence which features the work of Charli Carpenter, one of my favorite writers on social anthropology as it relates to warfare. I just discovered that she’s on Twitter, too. Definitely worth a follow. Best of luck to everyone at Current Intelligence.
- When I posted my views on Mandiant and APT, I ruffled a few feathers and probably could have been more diplomatic about it (not my strong suit). Fortunately Ryan Naraine just published the best piece on what APT really is that I’ve ever read. It’s long but please read the entire article. In fact, I’ll reproduce the short version for you right now:
-
- Patch immediately
- Understand your environment
-
- Build aggressive policies
- Be able to enforce those policies
- Generate intelligence and monitor that intelligence
-
- OS experts
- Application Experts
- Protocol Experts
- Security Systems Experts
- Ruby/PERL/Python/C coders
- At least one very, very bad person
IntelFusion.net or IntelFusion.com? There is a difference.

When I started this blog in March, 2007, the .com domain for IntelFusion wasn’t available, and if you clicked on it by mistake when looking for my blog, it didn’t matter because it was obvious you typed something other than IntelFusion.NET.
Unfortunately, since December, 2009, that is no longer the case. Now if you type intelfusion.com instead of Intelfusion.net, you’ll wind up on a website called ThreatFusion, which is basically a news aggregator of topics similar to what I write about. If you aren’t familiar with what I do, you may not know that you wound up somewhere other than where you mean’t to be, hence this post.
Bottom line, if you’re looking for ThreatFusion.com, great. If you’re looking for IntelFusion.net, welcome. But if you’re looking for IntelFusion.net and type .com by mistake, you may end up where you didn’t want to go. Just FYI.
