There’s a lot of crossover between intelligence collection and analysis for national security issues, and what’s done in the Business Intelligence space. As someone who’s involved with both, I see the intersections all the time.

Now there’s a video created by Palantir Technologies that demonstrates just how closely related these two disciplines are. The title isn’t very sexy – “Mortgage-backed Securities Analysis” – but the content is great:

Palantir analyzes individual mortgage loans, the higher order structures they collateralize, and institutions that hold tranches of those higher order structures

Not only will this video help you understand the complexities of the global banking crisis, but if you look at it as an intelligence problem, you’ll hopefully begin to appreciate the benefit of the crossover between the two  disciplines.

UPDATE: Detailed analysis of the workflows between analyzing a national security issue and a TARP issue can be read at the Palantir blog.
